Ayurveda

Although Ayurveda has grown in popularity recently in Western culture, it originated in India approximately 5000 years ago. The Sanskrit word Ayurveda means science of life. It is considered one of the world’s oldest holistic systems.

Ayurveda was divined by the rishis, the sages and the seers of the truth. These were the holy men of India, who spent many hours each day in meditation. While in meditation, they received great insights and shared these insights with their communities. This knowledge has been passed down through the ages.

Ayurveda is considered medical and metaphysical. It is medical for it pertains to health and well-being. It is metaphysical for it came from a place beyond the physical senses. The rishis shared insights that were “impossible” for them to know given the scientific advances at the time.

Ayurveda is a broad system that includes many different modalities including yoga, meditation, herbs, spices, foods, colors, sounds, mantras, essential oils and much more. I will share some of the basics.
